15 Best Athletic Fit Jeans 2023, According to Style Experts

When shopping for athletic fit jeans, it’s important to consider factors such as stretch, rise, and durability to ensure the best fit possible.

Stretch: The reason why you opt for athletic fit jeans over regular slim- or straight-fit jeans is that the latter is simply too uncomfortable and movement-restricting. But why stop at just an athletic fit?

“Jeans should be easy and comfortable, but still with some stretch and hold… It’s always good to look for a little stretch if you’re looking for comfort,” recommends celebrity stylist Warren Alfie Baker. To really amp up your mobility in denim, look for the stretch to make your jeans even more outgoing, courtesy of elastane, spandex, or lycra in the fabric.

Rise: The rise of denim refers to the distance between the bottom of the jeans’ crotch to the top of the waistband. And, needless to say, the longer the distance—i.e., the higher the rise—the more comfortable the jeans are. That is especially true for guys with bigger thighs since jeans with a higher rise cut usually get pulled quite up—at or above a person’s waist—which will give more room to fit in your legs above the knee.

Durability: You don’t want jeans that rip whenever you hop into a car or whenever you kneel down, do you? Absolutely not.

“Taking note of the denim quality, the reinforcements, and the construction are the best signals to look out for,” says Nick Kemp, the Head Designer at Taylor Stitch, on how to ensure your jeans are both durability- and longevity-bound.
