SVU Fans Won’t Be Able to Recognize Mariska Hargitay in New Instagram Pic

ONE OF THE things fans love most about Mariska Hargitay? She’s always sharing cool behind-the-scenes moments on social media from her life on-screen and off.

The actress got sentimental in a throwback Instagram post she shared on March 2, paying tribute to her friend, author Angelique Pitney. The photo, which shows the two playing in a river surrounded by a wooded area, gave fans a glimpse of their memories together, before folks knew Hargitay as the fearless Detective Olivia Benson on Law & Order: SVU.

She used her caption to express how much she respected and cherished her longtime friend. “#TBT to me and my childhood Bestie in second-grade @angeliquelamourpitney,” she wrote.

Without skipping a beat, Angelique replied: “I will always travel down the river with you!!! Love you so much.”

Unsurprisingly, the interaction between the duo had Law and Order: SVU fans gushing over them. “Awww! Lifelong friendships, especially lifelong female friendships, are so sacred. The oldest of inside jokes and secrets are forever kept and cherished in those relationships ????????,” one person wrote. “#DoubleTrouble right there! ????” someone commented. “Look at y’all! The bangs!! You were always the trendsetter!! ???? and I love that you’re still friends!! #fiercefemalefriendships ????,” a different fan chimed in.

Hargitay is well known for her deep love for close family members and friends, something fans also saw when she shared an emotional social media post after the death of former co-star Richard Belzer, calling him her “dear, dear friend.” Belzer died at the age of 78 in February. He worked alongside Hargitay from the beginning of the SVU series in 1999 through season 14 in 2013.

Her long working relationship with costar Ice-T, the only other co-star of the SVU series who has been there since the start, has also been applauded. Most recently, she spoke at his Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony when he received his star. “The reason that you have fame in my heart is because you are the O.G. of friendship,” she said. “You are my real deal, my true blue, authentic, unshakable friend and I cannot tell you what that means to me.”

And for those who might be surprised by this, friend and former co-star Christopher Meloni has shared that anyone who knows her knows her devotion to her friends.

“She’s got great energy, great personality,” he said in a speech while presenting her with the 2021 Glamour Women of the Year Award. “Vivacious. That’s my favorite word; it comes from the Latin, to live. Which is what she does with great passion, every day, with everyone that she engages, be they friends, family, strangers or commitments.”
