Robert De Niro has announced the birth of his seventh child.
During an interview with Entertainment Tonight Canada, the two-time Oscar winner confirmed he’s recently become a dad again, though he didn’t share the child’s name or reveal their mother.
“I just had a baby,” De Niro said, correcting the interviewer after she’d said he has six kids.
A representative for De Niro confirmed the news to ET Canada.
De Niro also spoke about his parenting style, revealing he’s not necessarily a “cool dad.”
“I mean, there’s no way around it with kids. I don’t like to have to lay down the law and stuff like that. But, [sometimes] you just have no choice,” De Niro said. “And any parent, I think, would say the same thing. You always want to do the right thing by the children and give them the benefit of the doubt but sometimes you can’t.”
The legendary actor had his first child, a son named Raphael, with ex-wife Diahnne Abbott in the 1970s. He also adopted her daughter Drena De Niro.
Following his divorce from Diahnne in 1988, De Niro had twins with partner Toukie Smith in 1995, and then had two more children with second wife Grace Hightower in 1998 and 2011. De Niro and Hightower split in 2018.
De Niro’s eldest son, Raphael, acted with him in the classic films Raging Bull and Awakenings before changing careers to become a celebrity real estate agent.
De Niro is currently promoting the family comedy About My Father, in which he plays a fictional version of comedian Sebastian Maniscalco’s father.
The 79-year-old is also set to have a dual role as gangsters Vito Genovese and Frank Costello in Wise Guys, also starring Will & Grace‘s Debra Messing and Power‘s Kathrine Narducci.
