Fall isn’t even here yet, but Al Roker sure has an opinion about one specific element of the upcoming season.
The Today show weather reporter appeared in an August 8 segment to discuss the return of pumpkin spice lattes before the start of autumn. Already famous for his dislike of the popular order, he took over the soundstage by surprising Sheinelle Jones, Craig Melvin, Jacob Soboroff and contributor Joe Fryer with an impassioned case for why he’s not a fan of the coffee drink.
“September 23 at 2:49 a.m.,” he exclaimed about the beginning of fall, as Al’s co-hosts cracked up beside him. “Why would you want to rush getting rid of summer for something to taste that bad?”
Upon seeing Al’s intense reaction to the idea of pumpkin spice lattes already coming back on the market, Sheinelle decided to question the NBC weatherman on why he has a shocking distaste for them. This led Al to disclose that it’s not specifically the coffee drinks he has an issue with — it’s anything that has pumpkin spice in it.
“[It’s] everything,” he explained when prompted about it. “I’m a Krispy Kreme fan. They lose points just for that.”
It seemed like Al wasn’t the only person not in favor of pumpkin spice lattes. When the clip started going viral on TikTok, many shared a similar sentiment. “I am 100% with Al,” one person shared. “Al for the WIN!! Great argument!! Don’t rush summer!!!! ????,” another wrote. “Team Al. Pumpkin spice lattes are disgusting. And I am a fan of almost all things pumpkin. Team no pumpkin spice latte!!!!!” a different viewer agreed.
Now, should Al be offered a pumpkin spice latte, what exactly would happen? Well, in a separate TikTok, he detailed the consequences (jokingly, of course). “I would literally stab somebody with a pencil if they came at me with a pumpkin spice latte. But, I like just a hot apple cider, you know, followed by maybe a hot cider apple donut.”
