NEWS BROKE ON Thursday night that rising country music star Zach Bryan had been arrested in his home state of Oklahoma on the charge of “obstruction of investigation.”
Bryan, a big Philadelphia Eagles fan who had earlier in the day posted that he was traveling to watch their season opening game in Massachusetts against the New England Patriots, took to X (formerly known as Twitter) shortly after the news became public to both apologize and clarify what happened.
“Today I had an incident with the Oklahoma Highway Patrol,” he wrote in his post. “Emotions got the best of me and I was out of line in the things I said.”
It didn’t take him long to get excited for the Eagles again though, as just under 40 minutes later he posted again: “STILL FUCKN HIGHWAYING ACROSS THE COUNTRY OL SONS LETS GOOOO”
By the morning, though (at 4:56 AM EST to be precise), Bryan took to X again, posting a nearly-five minute long video explaining his side of the entire situation with “seven Red Bulls in me” because he wanted “to be completely transparent with everyone who listens to my music about what happened yesterday.”
He jumps right into things in the video with remorse: “I was an idiot today, and my decisions did not reflect who I was as a person.”
He continues, explaining that he had two confrontations with the police in a 24-hour span; the first was when he was pulled over for going just over the speed limit and was left with a warning, and the second when his security guard got pulled over. The latter situation, as Bryan explains, is what resulted in his arrest and mugshot—when his security guard got pulled over, he got out of his car to smoke a cigarette. The police officer told him to get back in the car, he argued that he wasn’t the one being pulled over, and so an argument ensured and Bryan found himself arrested on the charge of “obstruction of investigation.”
Bryan says that eventually he realized he was in the wrong and even shook hands with the police officer and that “the night ended OK,” leading to his initial apology on X.
The 27-year-old has had a notable few weeks, and not just thanks to this run-in with the authorities. His newest album (titled Zach Bryan) and his collaboration with fellow country star Kacey Musgraves, “I Remember Everything” both hit #1, and tickets for his forthcoming arena tour quickly went on sale and sold out.
