How This Man Lost Weight and Regained His Confidence

Thommas Langholm, a 32-year-old youth worker from Stavanger, Norway, shares with Men’s Health how he lost weight, built muscle, and gained a new outlook on life with the help of Matt Morsia’s transformation program.

I started to gain weight towards the end of my marriage and through my divorce. I wasn’t really taking very good care of myself; I was comfort-eating, and doing almost no kind of physical activity. At my heaviest, I weighed 126 kgs (277 pounds), which made me feel like shit. I became seriously depressed and had low self-esteem.

My turning point came when I noticed that my XL clothes didn’t fit me. I couldn’t see my toes anymore, and I didn’t like what I saw in the mirror.

I had followed Matt on YouTube for a while, and his charisma and work ethic convinved me to download the Morsia app. The meal plan and workouts helped me realize that making a change was possible, and that this could be my time to become the person I wanted to be.

One of the first things I learned was that you can still eat good food while on a lifestyle change. I signed up for the Morsia transformation challenge, chose my diet, and started to become a better version of myself. While I was working out by myself for the most part, Matt’s videos were also valuable in teaching me how to lift properly and stay on track.

Two things kept me motivated: I took a photo every Sunday night, so I could see the progress I was making. And more generally, the growing feelings of happiness kept me going.

This transformation challenge I joined lasted for three months. In that time, I lost a lot of body fat and gained a lot of muscle, so the weight on the scales just showed that I lost 7 kgs (15 pounds), but my body composition looks a whole lot different now.

My friends, family and co-workers did notice quite fast that my mentality had changed and it didn’t take long before they saw that my body was changing as well. They were stunned that I could eat so good and still lose that amount of body fat.

There have been so many positive side effects aside from the physical results. I can do my job better, as I am able to play with the kids at school without being out of breath after just two minutes. I gained confidence, and I think women like a man who knows how to take good care of himself.

My next goal is to get a little leaner and bigger. This goal has had a few bumps along the way because of quarantine, and I got sick, but I am determined to continue pursuing my goals.

My advice for anyone else on their own journey would be, if you skip a day from training, have some snacks or eat more than the meal plan says, it’s not the end of the world. You don’t need to train more or eat less the next day to compensate, just stay true to the plan. Don’t use the scale to measure the progress you make, instead take a picture of yourself and write down your progress at the gym. Most importantly, have fun, and make this a lifestyle.
