Bodybuilder and TikToker Joey Swoll has been calling out more people for toxic gym behavior. This time his wrath is reserved for a man who tried to embarrass another gym goer by pressing a weight he couldn’t deadlift.
The original video showed a man struggling to deadlift from the ground while his friends sit around and offer support. The overlay caption then reads “I saw bro struggling with his PR”. Another man then proceeds to go over to the group, but instead of offering help and encouragement, he starts cleaning and pressing the weight.
“One of the things that upsets me most in the gym is people thinking they’re better than others simply because they’re bigger or stronger; you’re not,” Swoll said addressing the original video poster. “Just because you can lift more, doesn’t give you the right to treat people poorly.
“You saw an opportunity to shame him and embarrass him for likes and attention on social media. This is toxic gym culture. You could have done two things: you could have gone over and helped him, encouraged him, helped him with form or you could have simply minded your own business. Be better than that.”

Swoll’s callout has so far been viewed 9.6m times and has attracted over 20,000 comments, the majority of which are also calling out the man for his toxic gym behaviour.
“Imagine if we helped each other get better rather than destroying each other’s confidence. Well done on calling it out,” wrote one user. “I thought he went over there to help him, I’m honestly so disgusted with this behavior. Thank you for calling out peoples bs,” commented another.
