BEFORE YOU search for fortune, or just see what baubles you can find in the sand, you need the right tools. As luck would have it, Amazon is currently offering discounts of up to 45 percent on some of our favorite metal detectors. With some patience and luck, your next stroll along the beach might unearth something interesting or valuable. Even if the only treasure you find along the way is the savings on one of these metal detectors, they can make for an amusing diversion.
One of the more significant discounts comes on gear from Bounty Hunter. The TK4 Tracker IV is 45 percent off (down to $88 from $159). This metal detector is light, at 4.2 pounds, and the padded armrest lends comfort. It also offers an adjustable wand and an 8-inch waterproof coil, say your treasure hunting takes you by streams or to the beach.
The Bounty Hunter metal detector can also detect coin-size targets up to 6 inches deep and larger targets up to 2 feet deep. It also includes a mode that will allow you to distinguish between undesirable targets, such as nails, and an all-metal mode if you want to clean up a construction site.

The Bounty Hunter Gold Digger Metal Detector is also on sale, down to $59 from $99, and was our pick for the best basic model of the lot. Like the TK4 above, this detector can identify coin-size objects up to 6 inches deep and larger targets up to 2 feet deep. What’s different is that this one weighs only 2.3 pounds and features a 7-inch weather-resistant coil. It should still survive a stroll at the beach. If you’re new to metal detecting, this model is excellent because of its basic interface and adjustable knobs to control sensitivity. And our expert finds it still “versatile enough to appeal to a wide range of users” while also being “inexpensive enough that you can use it as a trial to see if metal detecting is an activity you enjoy.”
Happy treasure hunting.
