Spider-Man: No Way Home star Andrew Garfield has finally revealed the truth behind his viral Oscars moment.
The actor went viral during the March ceremony when he was caught on camera texting while Kevin Costner was announcing the nominees for Best Director – moments after Will Smith slapped Chris Rock on stage.
During an appearance on The View this week, Andrew had a hilarious response when he was asked whether it was true he’d been caught on live TV while texting.

“That’s none of your business,” he joked.
The actor, who was nominated for Best Actor for Tick, Tick… Boom!, then admitted he couldn’t help texting with friends about the shocking moment involving Smith.
“I feel so bad because Kevin Costner’s introducing the director nominees in the most beautiful and elegant way, and I’m like, ‘There’s no way I’m going to be on camera during this,'” Garfield recalled.

Not correct, as he found out: “Everyone’s texting me, asking me, like, what the vibe in the room is. At that moment, my friends took priority over Kevin.”
A friendly neighborhood Spider-Man never forgets his amazing friends. Andrew had a second viral moment that night when he was filmed leaving an Oscars after-party faux-slapping one of the other guests in a playful way.
The consequences have not been light-hearted for Will Smith. He resigned from the Academy the morning after the slap and has since been banned from all events associated with the group for the next 10 years.
