When Deadpool (starring Ryan Reynolds) first released in theaters back in 2016, it was unlike any other superhero movie out. It was a crass, fourth wall breaking, R-rated comedy, and a stark departure from the more serious, yet mostly family-friendly superheroes like Captain America, Superhero, or Batman. And arguably part of Deadpool’s success was its separation from any overarching plot (since 20th Century Fox distributed the film, it couldn’t connect to other MCU movies anyway). The most crossover the character managed was appearances from Colossus and Negasonic Teenage Warhead. No Spider-Man or Tony Stark here.
The sequel Deadpool 2 built upon the film’s existing formula, replicating the same light-hearted yet gory tale of an immortal mutated man who’s certainly not a villain, but not quite a full-fledged superhero either. The constraints of staying out of the MCU, plus staying separate from the ongoing X-Men film franchise managed to create the perfect avenue for Deadpool to find its sweet spot as an adult superhero series. The popularity of the first two films all but ensured there’d be a Deadpool 3, although according to Digital Spy the confirmed next film does not have an official release date yet.
A lot has changed since Deadpool’s release, though. 20th Century Fox is now under the Disney/Marvel juggernaut, which means Deadpool and X-Men are back in Marvel Studios’ hands, along with the various Marvel shows previously on Netflix. So wherever you used to view Deadpool or the critically-acclaimed Logan may not have the titles available for much longer. Where are they now? The movies have a new home now.
Where Is Deadpool Streaming?
As of July 22, 2022, Deadpool, Deadpool 2 are both now streaming on Disney+ as announced in a tweet by Disney+ on July 21. That means you can now watch every Marvel adaptation all in one place. You’ll need a subscription if you want to stream them, though.
Where Is Logan Streaming?
Logan, the third and final installment in the Wolverine trilogy, is now available to stream on Disney+. That means along with Deadpool and Deadpool 2, every X-Men film and subsequent spin-offs are able to be binge-watched in one place.
It’s perfect timing for these movies to hit the streaming service, since Marvel is expected to announce more information about the MCU’s next phase this year, along with news about the X-Men and Fantastic Four’s first official appearances in the MCU.
