We’re just days out from the Season 2 finale of The Ultimatum: Marry or Move On, the Netflix reality dating show that helps couples decide if they’re meant to be together… by splitting them up and matchmaking them with other people.
In the first eight episodes of the season, we saw all five couples separated and paired off with a new partner for a “trial marriage,” ostensibly to help them figure out how they feel about their own relationship and communication styles… but also, let’s be honest, for some good old-fashioned reality TV drama.
The Season 2 cast included Kat Shelton and Alex Chapman, a self-proclaimed “adventurous” couple who met on a dating app and have been dating for two years. Kat had been hoping that she and Alex could take things “from Hinge to hitched,” but Alex claimed that their busy lives had prevented him from proposing: they both have jobs that involve them traveling around the country.
Another issue in their relationship, Alex revealed in the show, is that he wants his partner to be his equal, and to keep him on his toes, while he sees Kat as more “conflict avoidant” and willing to defer to his needs. It is this more outspoken, challenging quality that draws him to his new partner on the show, Roxanne.
By the end of the eight episodes, Kat has reaffirmed her desire to marry Alex, but his “logical and practical” worldview prevents him from popping the question, and he remains unsure.” I have to make the biggest decision of my life,” he says in the trailer for the upcoming finale. “Once you make it, you’re in. Like you have to be all-in and you have to stay all-in. It’s make or break.”
Are Kat and Alex still together?
The Season 2 finale and reunion episodes will reveal all, but for the meantime, we know very little about Kat and Alex’s relationship status: their social media accounts have been typically quiet since filming on The Ultimatum wrapped, which is to be expected, as it’s not uncommon for reality TV contestants to keep schtum on details ahead of episodes airing.
What we do know is that, as of right now, Kat and Alex still follow each other on Instagram. So maybe Alex was able to make that difficult decision after all.
The final episodes of The Ultimatum drop on Netflix on August 30.
