Arnold Schwarzenegger is the king of branching out. First he went from dominating the world of professional bodybuilding to becoming one of the most bankable leading men in action movies, before moving on to a career in politics. He has also put his name to athletic events like the Arnold Classic. For his most recent project, a venture into live sports, he has teamed up with another multi-hyphenate: the controversial vlogger-turned-boxer Logan Paul.
The event in question? A slapping competition.
On the most recent episode of his webseries Impaulsive, the YouTube announced that they will both be hosting the live Slap Fighting Championship in Columbus, Ohio on March 5, as part of the Arnold Classic.
“Arnold and I are going to be presenting the Slap Fighting Championship,” he said. “You may have seen this event go viral online when two men, or two women, stand across from each other and slap the shit out of each other.”
Paul went on to explain that slap fighting as a sport originated in Russia and then gained popularity in Eastern Europe before making it to the States. “Why this is hilarious is, as you know, I was supposed to go to Russia to enter the slap contest,” he added.
“This is going to be big time,” Schwarzenegger said. “The Arnold Classic is a sports and fitness festival, and we never kind of choose, or have an attitude, no matter what the sport is. So people who ask me… why would you have that? I say I got the same question when we had an axe throwing competition… Why would you have archery? Why would you have an event where people are physically handicapped? We have everything. We have sports after sports after sports, we don’t judge anything, we are only there to have people compete, and people watch and be entertained and inspired.”
“I know we’re going to have a great time watching the slap competition,” he continued, “as long as we don’t get slapped!”
