Actor and Dancing With the Stars contestant Joseph Baena has shared a video to Instagram detailing the “killer pull day” routine he uses to stay in shape as part of a traditional push/pull workout split.
“I always start my back pump with pull-up,” he wrote in the caption. “An essential exercise for filling up the back and widening the lats!”
In the video, he proceeded to demonstrate sets of pullups, reverse-grip pulldowns, bent-over rows, close-grip pulldowns, chest-supported rows, and finished off with barbell bicep curls (“for the juicy pump”).
And in peak Baena fashion, the actor showed off his strong back and bicep pump after completing the workout by striking some of the classic physique poses made iconic on the podium by his father, Arnold Schwarzenegger, during his days as one of the most successful competitive bodybuilders of all time. Baena has a habit of recreating those tableaus, flexing just like his dad and making that close resemblance even more uncanny.
Baena doesn’t just train like Schwarzenegger—he trains with him too, and has described his father as the best gym buddy in the world. In his most recent Instagram post with bodybuilder Joshua Manoi, Baena reiterates the importance of a training partner in helping you push past your limits.
“You have to go all out and absolutely NO cheating when you train with him,” he said in 2021, after a father-and-son workout at Gold’s Gym in Venice. He later told Men’s Health in his cover story: “One of the big things I learned from Dad was not to have the ten-rep mentality… It’s pushing yourself to the limits and going that extra mile, getting those extra reps and half reps till you’re basically dying.”
