Congratulations, Ryan!
Ryan is PUSH511’s October Member of the Month. Ryan is a fixture in our group CrossFit classes and also does nutrition coaching with PUSH, too! Here’s why we love having him at PUSH!
Ryan always comes in with energy and a big smile ready to tackle any workout. Always fun to have him in class because he’s constantly looking to challenge himself. It helps that he comes in with his fit friends that also push him to try more and do more. Whenever Ryan comes into class I know it’s going to be a fun one to coach.
Ryan has to be one of the sweetest men of all time. I only had the pleasure of coaching him a few times, but he constantly has a smile on his face. (He also is very fun at bars and is receptive to cues, especially during bench).
Now, let’s get to know our October Member of the Month!
When did you start CrossFit? April 2021
What’s your fitness background? I played sports growing up and in high school (mainly lacrosse) and have always enjoyed fitness, but wasn’t really doing much before joining PUSH.
What’s your favorite CrossFit movement? Power Cleans. Hands down.
What’s your least favorite movement? Probably double unders, but that’s my fault because I don’t practice enough (sorry coach Kevin).
What do you do for work? I’m an embedded software engineer for a large contracting company supporting the DoD.
Tell us a little bit about yourself and your family. I grew up in southern Maryland in a small town (St. Mary’s county, yes it’s more south than DC lol) and am a middle child. Went to college at Virginia Tech (class of 2017, go Hokies!). Moved up to Baltimore for work almost four years ago and have loved it ever since.
Tell us something we don’t know about you! My favorite hobby is snow skiing and I try to make at least one trip out west every year to enjoy the mountains.
How has CrossFit affected your life outside the gym? It has been a huge boost to my self-confidence and I have noticed vast improvements in my endurance/strength since joining PUSH. 10/10 would recommend.
What do you enjoy most about PUSH? The comradery. Everyone in the gym whether it be fellow members or coaches is super supportive and friendly. My favorite is when everyone cheers each other on during our strength portions.
What tips would you offer someone who is just getting started with working out? Don’t be intimidated by the movements, everyone has to start somewhere and you will definitely get better at them faster than you think! Also, don’t push it too hard with the weight at first take it slow and steady.
What’s your favorite song to work out to? It’s gotta be either Shabba Ranks by A$AP Ferg or anything Kid Rock, shoutout coach Steph!
What’s your favorite restaurant? Osteria 177 in Annapolis. Best Italian I’ve ever had.
Who’s your hero (real or fictional)? A real one would be my dad. Fictional I’d go Spider-Man, most specifically the Toby McGuire version.
What does your frequently used emoji tab look like?
Words to live by or favorite quote? “If you ain’t first you’re last!” -Ricky Bobby
What’s your favorite travel spot? Savannah, GA. Been there twice and had a blast both times. Beautiful city with lots of history.
If you could win an Olympic gold medal for any sport, real or fake, what would it be? Speed walking for sure. Got the form down pat.
What’s your hidden talent? I’m pretty dang good at cornhole. I won a tournament in college once.
What are your top five favorite movies?
- Saving Private Ryan
- Ace Ventura Pet Detective (both of them)
- The Dark Knight
- Pulp Fiction
- Interstellar
