Emily is PUSH511’s December Member of the Month!

Emily is a PUSH511 OG… she has been a member of the gym for nearly a decade! She is a fixture in our group CrossFit classes and has done nutrition coaching with us as well. Despite being a busy nurse and new mother, she never fails to bring a positive attitude and mindset to class!

This is why the PUSH team loves having Emily in class:

No matter which time she comes in whether it’s 4:50 in the morning, Noon, or early afternoon, Emily always comes ready to go. Always coachable, fun, and a joy to have in any class she comes to.

Emily is a staple to PUSH511 and is just a good energy to have in the class. She always tries her hardest and does it with a smile on her face.

Emily has been so dedicated, and it has been such a privilege to watch her become a mom and continue to get fitter after adding Lena to our gym family. She always shows up and always has a positive attitude. She’s one of our best female rowers and is great at grinding through workouts. I’m so grateful Emily and her family are part of PUSH.

I always love when I have Emily in my class – whether I’m coaching or working out beside her. Emily has such a nonchalant attitude as she destroys everyone with her rowing and nonstop wall-balls. She’s always positive and brings great energy to the gym!

Emily is an amazing PUSH511 OG, being a member for just under 9 years.  She makes fitness a priority knowing the positive impact it has on her personally and helping her to be a rockstar mom and wife! Her commitment rang through during COVID when she would take the ‘box’ by the front door with the door fully open in the winter so she could be extra safe for her job & others while keeping her fitness going. She puts in the work, always with a smile, and gives it her best each day, no matter what life drops in her lap that day. I love watching her on a rower pulling off big cals/meters with ease. Everyone should strive to be like Emily, she is a wonderful role model to all.

Emily is the cardio queen! She absolutely crushes any workout that involves the bike or rower, box jumps, burpees, wall balls – you name it! And this is usually after she has biked to the gym! She is so fun to have in class as she just puts her head down and grinds through workouts. She is a rockstar of a human and PUSH is such a great community because of her and members like her!

Now let’s get to know our December Member of the Month!

When did you start CrossFit? 2015.

What’s your fitness background? Volleyball, swimming, water polo, mountain biking.

What’s your favorite CrossFit movement? Wall balls, box jumps, cleans.

What’s your least favorite movement? Snatch grip push press, overhead squat.

What do you do for work? I am a nurse. I work as a case manager with heme onc patients receiving stem cell transplants and cellular therapies.

Tell us a little about yourselves and your family! I’m from the San Francisco Bay Area and moved to Baltimore for nursing school. I met my husband Georg here and he introduced me to PUSH! We now have a daughter, Lena, who can often be found hanging out at the gym on the weekends.

Tell us something we don’t know about you! I played cello for many years and it’s something I’d like to pick up again.

How has CrossFit affected your lives outside of the gym? Physically I notice that I’m much fitter and have better endurance in other activities like biking or long hikes, and I also have more strength for everyday things like lifting or playing with my daughter. Mentally it’s given me the confidence to know that I can achieve things I never thought I’d be capable of. I hope that these practices will help me be a healthy role model for our daughter.

What do you enjoy the most about PUSH511? It is such a great community that has supported me and my family for many years now! The gym really encompasses so many aspects of well-being, from fitness and nutrition, to social events and personal development. I am also immensely grateful to the coaches and other members who supported and helped me stay fit throughout my pregnancy and postpartum period. PUSH really meets you wherever you are.

What tips would you offer to someone who is just getting started with working out? Don’t get discouraged or compare yourself to others. Everyone has their own unique journey and goals in health and wellness. It is constantly a work in progress. The benefits you’ll gain you may not even understand yet, but just keep at it!

What’s your favorite song to work out to? One of Sam’s pumping electro mixes.

What’s your favorite restaurant? Currently La Cuchara.

Words to live by or favorite quote? I’ve always liked that quote that hangs in the gym: “Surround yourself by those who lift you higher.”

What’s your favorite travel spot? Lake Tahoe.

If you could win an Olympic gold medal for any sport, real or fake, what would it be? Toddler chasing.

What’s your hidden talent? I can play the cello.

What are your top five favorite movies?

  1. Shawshank Redemption
  2. Forrest Gump
  3. Best in Show
  4. This is Spinal Tap
  5. Lord of the Rings
