40 looks damn good on Chris Hemsworth. The actor, best known for playing Thor in the long-running Marvel Cinematic Universe, recently celebrated turning the big 4-0 with one of his oft-cited favorite activities: going surfing in Byron Bay, Australia, where he lives with wife Elsa Pataky and their two children.
In photos acquired by People, Chris and his brother Liam hit the water in a couple of wet suits—and in one shot, between catching waves, Chris can be seen stripped to the waist while checking his phone, with his jacked biceps and sculpted chest on show.
While the actor is still in leading man shape at 40—he specifically honed a leaner physique for his recent action sequel Extraction 2 after putting on mad gains for Thor: Love and Thunder—it will be a while before he takes on another role. He recently confirmed that he is stepping away from the MCU and the character of Thor for the foreseeable future. With the as-yet-unreleased Mad: Max Fury Road prequel Furiosa now in the can, he is taking some time away from acting to focus on his health and spending time with his family.
This decision came after he learned, while filming his NatGeo docuseries Limitless, that his genetics place him at a higher-than-average risk of Alzheimer’s. “It was a really good catalyst to dive into everything I needed to be doing in either the prevention front or the management front or however you want to classify it,” he said in November 2022. “It really triggered something in me to want to take some time off.”
