Chris Hemsworth is taking a break from playing the Asgardian god Thor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe for just long enough to build another franchise. Despite things looking pretty ropey for his character at the end of the action thriller Extraction, Hemsworth will be back as mercenary Tyler Rake in Extraction 2.
What will Extraction 2 be about?
Rake’s fate was left somewhat ambiguous at the end of the original movie, when he was shot on screen by one of crime lord Asif’s associates and left for dead in a river. However, the final scene of the film dropped a not-so-subtle hint that Hemsworth’s character had survived. The moment briefly shows a man resembling Rake in a vision by the kidnapped boy Ovi (Rudraksh Jaiswal).
The sequel is expected to pick up not long after, with Rake barely surviving that encounter, only for him and his team to be thrown into yet another high-risk mission.
Hemsworth first teased the sequel back in December 2021, sharing footage of himself and director Sam Hargrave from the first day of filming on a train in Prague, hinting that the sequel will be “very different from the last film,” saying: “1. [It’s] very, very cold. 2. I’m alive. How? You’ll have to find out—watch the movie.”
Who is in the Extraction 2 cast?
Hemsworth is reprising the role of mercenary Tyler Rake, while Golshifteh Farahani is also returning as his partner Nik Kahn, and Adam Bessa is coming back as Yaz Kahn. Also joining the cast are Ogya Kurylenko, Daniel Bernhardt, and Tinatin Dalakishvili.
Hemsworth is reuniting with Avengers: Endgame‘s Joe and Anthony Russo, who serve as producers. Joe also wrote the script of the upcoming movie, which doesn’t have an official release date as of yet.
Is there a trailer?
Netflix dropped the first official teaser trailer for the movie on April 3, giving audiences a glimpse at what promise to be even higher-octane action setpieces.
