Jamie Lee Curtis, 64, Recalls Backlash After Posing Topless at 50

Jamie Lee Curtis is never one to hold back, often baring it all in more ways than one. Whether posing naked in a bathtub or criticizing fillers, procedures, the Oscar-nominated actress doesn’t shy away from speaking her mind. Now, the 64-year-old actress is using a topless throwback photo from nearly 14 years ago to broach an important topic: sexuality and aging.

The Everything Everywhere All at Once star posted the photo to Instagram, which originally hit newsstands just ahead of her 50th birthday for AARP magazine’s 2008 May/June issue. Now, Curtis is reflecting on the stir the photo caused.

“A fun #fbf when I was the @aarp Cover Girl and people lost their MINDS that I was TOPLESS!” Curtis captioned the Instagram photo. “A perfect statement about how weird people are about older people having any sexuality whatsoever.”

In the issue, Curtis opened up about approaching the milestone birthday. “I have not one second of anxiety about turning 50,” she told AARP at the time. “I want to be older. I actually think there’s an incredible amount of self-knowledge that comes with getting older. I feel way better now than I did when I was 20. I’m stronger, I’m smarter in every way, I’m so much less crazy than I was then.”

Curtis’s throwback Instagram photo certainly garnered more support this time around. Supermodel Paulina Porizkova (who frequently poses topless and calls out anti-aging culture) commented “Yup. Apparently, older women should give that up????,” while a fan commented, “you’re my hero!” Another added, “beautiful at any age…that is what you have shown women…keep at it Jamie Lee Curtis!”

We love to see that Curtis has maintained her thoughts on aging since she graced the cover of AARP—in fact, she has routinely shared her pro-aging mindset since then. “Getting older makes you more alive,” Curtis previously said. “More vitality, more interest, more intelligence, more grace, more expansion.”

“I have a motto now, as I am past that sell-by date, which is, ‘If not now, when? If not me, who?’ I say it to myself every single day,” she said in the past about aging in Hollywood. “And after more than 40 years in the business, I am busier today than I have ever been in my entire life.”

We absolutely adore having Curtis as a role model for all things aging and beauty—and we can’t wait for her next stunning photo accompanied with even more words of wisdom.
