Jared Leto is well-known for his method acting. Back in 2016, when he played the Joker in Suicide Squad, Leto reportedly sent his co-stars used condoms, anal beads, and even a rat as a commitment to his unpredictable character. That same devotion to his craft has extended to his new series WeCrashed, in which he stars alongside Anne Hathaway.
In the April 2022 issue of Men’s Health, Anne Hathaway revealed she couldn’t call Leto by his actual name. He was so engrossed in his character, she felt she had to call him “Adam” or “my co-star.” Although many people might be put off by the dynamic, Hathaway clarified it was a positive experience.
I am aware that sort of thing can be badly misunderstood if you don’t spend a lot of time with actors, so please allow me to say in the clearest way possible what a pleasure the experience was with whoever-that-was,” she says.
She also noted how diligent Leto was about maximizing his time. “It’s hard to put into words how much I learned from being around someone who builds his freedom from his phenomenal discipline and focus.”
As for Leto, his philosophy for acting is to dedicate as much of himself as he can, while knowing he’ll never really be the people he’s portraying. “Your job is to bring to life the spirit of the person that’s depicted in the story, to serve the story,” he says.
