Jason Momoa on Aquaman Body & DC Future: ‘I’m an Aging Superhero’

HE MAY LOOK unstoppable on screen, but don’t be fooled: Jason Momoa is totally human. In a new interview with Men’s Health for our May/June cover, the actor revealed that back in March 2022, he sustained a hernia injury while filming Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. He joked he can’t do sit-ups anymore, and considers himself an “aging superhero.”

Back in November 2022, Momoa caught flack online (undeserved, if you ask us) for having a “dad bod,” when he was seen in Venice on vacation not flexing his muscles for the camera. Thankfully, most of the Internet agrees that Momoa is in great shape. Seriously, he wouldn’t be a convincing Aquaman otherwise.

Co-CEOs of DC Studios, Peter Safran, had nothing but good things to tell Men’s Health about Momoa and his time as Aquaman. “I have been working with him for six or seven years,” he says, “and I keep waiting for the proverbial other shoe to drop. If there is an inner asshole in him, it has never come out. That, to me, is a surprise . . . albeit a very pleasant one.”

And despite his “aging superhero” concerns, it doesn’t sound like he’s done with playing a superhero anytime soon. Despite the changes DC has recently gone through, Aquaman could be around for a while. “I look forward to working with Jason for many years to come,” Safran says. “I would be happy for it to be in Arthur Curry’s world, but if/when another opportunity came up, I’d find another great character for him to create.”

Momoa knows a bit more about his immediate future post-Aquaman 2, but can’t say much beyond, “there’s a lot of badass shit coming up.” We’ll definitely be tuning in.
