Love and Thunder’ Writer Didn’t Know About Credit Scene Cameo

Thor: Love and Thunder spoilers follow.

The co-writer of Thor: Love and Thunder revealed she was as surprised to see that mid-credit cameo as the next Marvel fan.

Jennifer Kaytin Robinson worked on the script of the fourth Thor movie with director Taika Waititi. As it is often the case with the MCU, a few things were kept on the down-low, including that Ted Lasso star cameo. (Final spoiler warning for those who haven’t watched Love and Thunder just yet.)

In the mid-credit scene, Russell Crowe’s Zeus complains about having been disrespected by Thor, Jane, Valkyrie and Korg. He addresses Hercules directly, the camera panning to reveal actor Brett Goldstein in full demigod attire.

“I saw that at the premiere with everybody else,” Robinson told Variety.

“In the same way that I guess Taika didn’t know Thor was coming back, I did not know that Roy Kent was Hercules. I’m a huge Marvel fan, so I was delighted to have one moment in the movie where I was truly surprised.”

Did Marvel really leave the film’s screenwriter in the dark about this? Well, it seems there may have been a few whispers….

“I knew there was talk about Hercules,” Robinson explained.

“The name Hercules was not not said in conversations that I definitely, probably wasn’t supposed to overhear, but did.

“So the minute I saw the beginning of the scene, I knew he was gonna be talking to Hercules,” she continued, though she didn’t know which actor would be cast in the role.

Thor: Love and Thunder is now playing in theaters. The other three Thor movies are available to stream now on Disney+.
