It’s been over four years since Mark Wahlberg originally went viral after sharing a look at his extreme daily schedule, which includes waking up at 2:30 in the morning in time for a 3:30 workout. And if you thought he might have mellowed in his rigorous approach to fitness in that time, you’d be wrong. The actor is very much still in what he has dubbed the “3am club,” and just shared a video of his latest small-hours training session to Instagram.
“That leg workout’s tough, huh?” he can be heard saying in the video, cranking out leg extensions and flexing his massive quads before shedding his T-shirt in order to show off his shredded six-pack abs, and thanking gym owner and personal trainer Shahin Safae for opening up at such an early hour so he could get his workout in.
While the 3:30 a.m. workout would usually be preceded by breakfast, this session was fasted: Wahlberg, who speaks publicly and frequently about his Catholic faith, is observing Lent and will be intermittent fasting for the entire 40-day period. “Discipline has always been important for me in life,” he recently told Today. “Once I started getting into movies and transitioned from music, I realized I needed a lot of discipline in my life, and that discipline has afforded me so many other things.”
“You don’t need to fast for 40 days like Jesus,” he continued in the video. “You just need to do a little bit more every day, and when you’re struggling, ask for help,” he added.
