When Elon Musk challenged Mark Zuckerberg to a cage fight earlier this year, it seemed for a minute like it was actually going to happen. We’ve not heard a great deal from Musk on the subject, and it is entirely possible that him throwing down the gauntlet was yet another characteristically hollow attention-seeking gesture, like rebranding Twitter as “X.”
Zuckerberg, on the other hand, is match ready. The Meta CEO has been taking his mixed martial arts training very seriously indeed: he regularly spars with pro fighters like Mike Muscemi, Israel Adesanya and Khai “The Shadow” Wu, and just last month he earned a blue belt at Guerilla Jiu-Jitsu in San Jose, California.
Aside from Musk, there is one other person who is less than thrilled at the dedication the Facebook founder is showing in his MMA training: his wife, Priscilla Chan.
Zuckerberg recently shared a screengrab of a WhatsApp exchange between himself and Chan on Instagram, illustrating just how much space his martial arts obsession is taking up in their home life. Literally.
“Did you see the octagon I put in the backyard?” Zuck asked, to which Chan replied: “Yes, I saw it.”
“It looks awesome,” he continued. “We have plenty of yard space!”
“I have been working on that grass for two years,” Chan admonished him.
The whole thing reads like dialogue between a husband and ever-exasperated wife in a sitcom, but the fact that Zuck shared it probably means their minor disagreement got resolved. And let’s be honest: as a tech mogul with an estimated net worth of more than $110 million, he absolutely does have plenty of yard space.
