EVER SINCE THE news broke that Marvel was working on a new Fantastic Four film, fans have wanted to know who will star in the superhero blockbuster.
While there hasn’t been any official news yet, recent casting rumours have included Killing Eve’s Jodie Comer, who recently responded to rumours that she will play Sue Storm.
Now, there are reports that Star Wars‘ Adam Driver is in talks to appear in the film as Reed Richards.
A version of Reed previously appeared in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, with A Quiet Place‘s John Krasinski playing the character in that film.
Fans have been reacting to speculation that Driver—who has appeared in the likes of 65, House of Gucci, and Marriage Story—could be joining the MCU.
Many were pleased with the idea of the actor taking on the iconic role, citing his previous work as proof he is a good choice for the beloved character.
One user tweeted: “I would be more than happy with Adam Driver as Reed Richards. We saw he can go from a meek nerd to a confident businessman in #HouseOfGucci, so I could see him nailing Reed.”
Another added: “Adam Driver as Reed Richards really is a good choice. Adam has the range and the experience to pull off the leader of the Fantastic Four. I’m personally ok with it.”
“I feel like I’m the only person in the world who’s not bothered by the Adam Driver as Reed Richards possibility?” a third user added.
“He’s not my first choice but he’s an incredible actor with huge range & I feel like every single fancast I saw was an actor way too likable for a character like Reed.”
Others thought the star would be better placed in a different role, with one fan noting: “Adam Driver would make a better Doctor Doom than Reed Richards for the MCU Fantastic Four.”
Another made the same observation, posting: “So it’s been rumored earlier by many scoopers that Marvel has offered the role of the MCU’s Reed Richards in the FF movie to Adam Driver and he does end up playing Reed (which it seems like he will) then I’m not going to be that happy as even though I think he’s a great actor, I just don’t see him at all as Reed. I’d much rather see him be Doctor Doom [than] Reed.”
Others had their own ideas about who should play Reed, suggesting stars such as William Jackson Harper, Bill Hader, and Nathan Fielder.
“I do not want to talk about this rumored reed richards casting unless it is PENN BADGLEY,” another user suggested.
Badgley hasn’t directly addressed speculation that he will play Reed, only saying that he could “neither confirm nor deny” the reports.
Director Matt Shakman has previously shut down all casting rumours, so fans will just have to keep waiting to find out who the super foursome will be played by.
