Modern Family’s Nolan Gould Shows Buff Physique on Shirtless Hike

To an entire generation of TV viewers, Nolan Gould will always be the baby-faced Luke, the youngest Dunphy kid from the long-running sitcom Modern Family. He played that role for 11 years, from 2009 to 2020, and by the time the series ended he was a fully-grown man—and jacked to boot.

In a 2020 interview, Gould shared how changing his diet played a huge role in his muscle transformation, including cutting back on alcohol and giving up his “teenage boy” dinners of “four pizzas at once.” He also opened up about how working out during quarantine ended up being a “very healthy and positive” thing which he has continued to do.

Gould started showing off his muscular physique around the same time that the show was winding down, making some long-time viewers feel very, very old indeed. And in a couple of new Instagram posts, the actor—now 24 years old—poses shirtless to prove that he is still working out.

Recently, Gould has been pushing his fitness to the limits outside of the gym, and testing his strength and endurance through a series of adventurous challenges. He wrote on Instagram in July of his plans to “hit the road for awhile,” and since then he has posted proudly about climbing Mount Rainier, the highest mountain in Washington State, describing the accomplishment as “the hardest thing I’ve ever done in my life.”

26 miles of hiking and camping through Four Pass Loop in Maroon Bells, Colorado was seemingly the next step in Gould’s adventure. “26 miles, more oatmeal packets than can be counted,” he wrote in the caption of an Instagram post. “Aliens were definitely seen.”

It was in this carousel of images that Gould shed his shirt in front of the stunning vista. A couple of weeks ago, he’d shown off his abs while posing for a photo in front of the ocean.
