Peloton Issues Recall for Original Bike Models for Seat Post Flaw

PELOTON IS VOLUNTARILY RECALLING over two million of its exercise bikes due to a faulty seat post. The seats can “break unexpectedly during use,” reads a statement from the company about the recall. This issue could put users at risk of injury from falls.

The recall is for the original Peloton model bikes that have been sold from January 2018 until May 2023 in the United States. This specific model “can be identified by its PL-01 model number on the label located on the inside front fork (near the flywheel), the red ‘P’ logo followed by the white-colored Peloton brand name on the bike’s frame, and by its non-swivel display,” the company’s statement read. Peloton also says that owners of the affected units will be contacted by email.

The company disclosed that there have been 35 reported cases of seat post breaks, and 13 reported injuries including lacerations, bruises, and wrist fractures. The Consumer Product Safety Commission also released a statement, telling consumers to “immediately stop using the recalled exercise bikes and contact Peloton for a free repair.”

Peloton is advising its users to visit this website to receive their free replacement part. For any other questions regarding the recall, the statement provides more information for direct contact with the company.

Only original Bikes sold in the United States will be affected by the recall, although Peloton’s statement says that an update for Canadian Bike owners will be available “in the coming days.” Original Bike models sold outside of the U.S. and the company’s other models like, the Bike+, are not affected by the issue.
