The Netflix reality multiverse marches into Avengers territory this month. Perfect Match, a dating series modeled on some kind of sexy musical chairs, unites several failed contestants from the streaming network’s top franchises—Too Hot to Handle, Love Is Blind, The Circle, and others. The result: a hot mess of drama and a potential harbinger for future Netflix #content.
The reality star team up was inevitable. Netflix has pivoted hard into reality programming since the world went to hell in 2020; Netflix became the biggest buyer of unscripted programming in 2021, signaling to its competitors that the future of streaming is real—real and with cameras hidden in plants and talking cones preaching abstinence.
Perfect Match—whose first batch of episodes premiered on Valentine’s Day—has already seen a bump in ratings, rising atop Netflix’s self-reported top ten.
The audience will only grow.
Perfect Match’s first season—and we’re likely to see more seasons—is not even half over. Only four of twelve episodes have now aired. Despite Netflix’s own insistence that they are holding tight to a binge release model, their reality content will continue the trend of batch release—with episodes airing in groups. Perfect Match will be the same.
Here’s when to expect new episodes. Welcome to the era of the Netflix Cinematic Sexverse.
