The Wheel of Time is one of Prime Video’s most ambitious series. It’s reportedly one of the most expensive shows the platform has ever made, as Forbes reports (yet still nothing near the price tag of Rings of Power). The show features a large ensemble cast lead by Rosamund Pike, major special effects, and a complex, sprawling story that, if the show continues, will take years to complete. In the years to come, The Wheel of Time could turn out to be one of the biggest shows ever broadcast on TV.
Based on a popular fantasy series of the same name by Robert Jordan, The Wheel of Time follows a member of a powerful group of magical women, who sets out to find a mythical being with the potential to save the world. She gathers a number of young villagers who all could be the one she’s looking for, and they set out on a journey to each discover their destinies. It’s the sort of series with intense world-building that’ll keep you invested in the plot and eager to do a deep dive into the story Jordan crafted.
The series just finished its second season, which means fans are eager to learn about the fate of the show, and what’s in store for the characters. It’s frustrating when there’s no word on the future of a show that undoubtedly needs all the time it can get to tell a complete story. Thankfully, there’s good news. Here’s everything we know about The Wheel of Time Season 3.
Will there be The Wheel of Time Season 3?
Yes! Before the premiere of Season 2, Prime Video renewed the show for a third season. The only question is how long fans will have to wait.
When will Season 3 of The Wheel of Time premiere?
The first season premiered in 2021, while the second premiered in 2023, with a slight filming pause due to the pandemic. Considering the scale of the show, it’s possible it could take another two years for Season 3. The Wheel of Time Season 3 may not return until 2025.
What will Season 3 of The Wheel of Time be about?
The third season will likely follow The Shadow Rising, the fourth book in the series. The first season covered the first book, while the second season covered the second and third. Here’s the official synopsis, as Cosmo reports (be warned, spoilers below!):
“The Stone of Tear, invulnerable fortress of legend, has fallen. The Children of the Dragon have risen to the call of prophecy and march to the aid of the Light. Callandor, the Sword That Is Not a Sword, is held by Rand al’Thor, the man proclaimed as the Dragon Reborn.
“But still the shadows lengthen and still the Forsaken grow in strength. If he is to fight them, Rand must master the male half of the True Source, a power corrupted by the Dark One, a power that drives men to madness, a power that may save or damn the world.”
Who will be in the cast for The Wheel of Time Season 3?
The main cast should all be set to return, including Rosamund Pike. While in Season 2, there was a major cast change in who played Mat Cauthon, the character’s new actor, Dónal Finn, will be playing Mat Cauthon going forward.
