Rico McClinton may not have been as famous as bodybuilding legends such as Dorian Yates or Flex Wheeler, but when it comes to the bodybuilding scene of the 1990’s, McClinton’s name is one of the first to come to mind. McClinton made a rare appearance on a recent episode of The Menace Podcast with host Dennis James, Chris Cormier, and Milos Sarcev. The four men looked back fondly at the days they all trained in California during their heyday as athletes, including when McClinton was trading sets with Wheeler and Cormier.
“It was fun, man,” said McClinton. “We pushed each other. That was what I loved about it, man because we’re all competitive people. Nobody wants to lose.”
You can imagine that it wasn’t too quiet when they were working out together in Gold’s Gym Venice. Even though they all would push each other’s buttons occasionally, McClinton was quick to say who did that the most.
“Chris talked the most smack out of everybody,” he said with a smile. Cormier was quick to call McClinton out for pulling the reverse on that, though. James also shared how he met Rico in the early
days of his career, and he recalled how he was ignored by Wheeler at first. Wheeler also eventually joined the chat to add his own stories into the conversation.
As for what he’s up to now, McClinton is still connected to the fitness industry and training clients at Gold’s Gym Venice, but he’s also dipping his toe in another field.
“I’ve been training some clients, doing some acting stuff, and I’ve started doing some directing stuff,” he told the panel.
