Riverdale’s KJ Apa Shocks Fans With Dramatic Hair Transformation

Riverdale is slowly but surely drawing to an end after five years on air, and if KJ Apa‘s latest selfie is anything to go by, Archie Andrews is already gone.

Following on from Riverdale‘s mind- (and time-) bending season six finale, KJ Apa has revealed a dramatic new look on social media, announcing a “reset” to fans.

Bidding farewell to the Archie Andrews role and his iconic red hair, KJ showed off his newly-shaved head on Instagram last week.

“Reset,” he wrote, before confirming that his new look is related to his upcoming role in motorcycle racing movie One Fast Move.

One Fast Move, which was announced last month, will see Apa portray a dishonorably discharged soldier who decides to reconcile with his estranged father and pursue his dream of racing Supersport motorcycles.

While training, Apa’s character meets a small-town aspiring singer who quickly turns his world upside down, breaking down the walls he’d built while growing up with an absent father.

Before we see KJ in One Fast Move, however, we’ll be seeing him as Riverdale‘s Archie—only when he and the rest of the gang return for the show’s final season, they’ll be in (SPOILER!) 1955.

Opening up about the surprise twist in the latest season finale, showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa explained how the characters’ transportation to the ’50s came about.

“We talked about it in the room and we were sort of like, ‘Gosh, could we go back and put everyone back in high school?’ But we’ve done that,” he explained.

“So we thought: What if we go back to high school, but instead of high school in the present, we make it high school in the 1950s, which is how a lot of people think of the Archie characters.”

Riverdale airs on The CW will end with season 7.
