Simu Liu Looks Shredded and Ready for ‘Shang-Chi 2’ in New Photo

There’s no word yet on when the sequel to Marvel’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings will be happening, but one thing is for sure: Simu Liu is ready. The actor who plays the titular martial arts master just shared a shirtless photo taken at the end of a training session in a gym in London on Instagram, proving that he is staying in superhero shape by showing off his sculpted abs.

“Early morning bed head and eye gunk photo lol,” he wrote in the caption, while giving a shout out to his trainer David Higgins, saying: “I hate u.”

Of course, Liu is no stranger to hard work. Part and parcel of getting the lead role in a superhero movie is the body transformation, as evidenced by the the likes of Ben Affleck, Jason Momoa, Sebastian Stan, and of course the Chrises Evans, Hemsworth, and Pratt. But for Liu, that process didn’t just involve getting ripped: he also had to credibly pass as the greatest martial artist in the MCU (no easy feat considering he reportedly exaggerated his kung fu credentials to get the part).

In his Men’s Health cover story, Liu recalled how he lifting would do three workouts a day on the set of Shang-Chi, as well as the stretching and mobility work required to learn the complex fight choreography.

“Obviously, learning the martial arts is a big part of my training, but the other part of being a Marvel superhero is, well, looking like a superhero,” Liu told Men’s Health. “So when we were building that superhero workout, that Marvel body, it was really important for us not to sacrifice range of motion and explosiveness, because I’ve still got to be able to throw a punch at the end of the day.”
