Whether you’re making friends or trying to meet someone new, it’s always handy to have some shared interests to talk about. Just look at Tom Cruise and Shakira, who appear to have bonded over their shared love of motor sports after meeting at the F1 Miami Grand Prix on Sunday, May 7.
The Top Gun: Maverick star and “Whenever, Wherever” singer left the starting grid earlier than expected in order to spend some time alone together, Page Six reports. Cruise, 60, and Shakira, 46, were escorted off the track by security before the race had even begun (while the F1 drivers were still being introduced, in fact), and went to a VIP suite where they could talk in private.
Footage of the actor and Colombian singer chatting and laughing in a private hospitality area, along with one of Shakira’s children, was later captured and shared by a fan on TikTok.
Cruise is believed to be single, and Shakira is famously now unattached following her high profile split from Spanish soccer player Gerard Piqué, whom she discovered was cheating on her with Clara Chia Marti in 2022.
Sunday was a big day for Cruise for a whole different reason too. In addition to hitting it off with the Latin pop superstar in Miami, he was also technically making a special appearance at King Charles’ coronation concert across the Atlantic in London, via a series of recorded segments which he and a number of other celebrity guests filmed in advance.
