YouTubers and bodybuilding brothers Brandon and Hudson White, who create content as the Buff Dudes, have completed all kinds of strength and endurance challenges on their channel. In their most recent video, they attempt to determine their “fitness age,” taking on eight separate events which will respectively test their: strength; speed; agility; balance; mobility; coordination; explosiveness; and endurance. In each category, the brothers are aiming for the score that a 25-year-old would get.
The first test is the trap bar farmer’s walk. In order to get the “coveted 25 years old,” Brandon and Hudson will each need to walk 100 feet while carrying 175 percent of their own bodyweight. For Brandon, that equates to 420 pounds, which he successfully carries for the full distance. Hudson also hits a perfect score in this round, lifting and carrying 370 pounds. “It kind of unleashes your inner barbarian,” he says after his first victory. “I feel like having some meat and mead now.”
The second test, designed to gage flexibility, is the sit and reach. Both Hudson and Brandon only achieve the equivalent of a 45-year-old’s score in this round, reaching 19.5 inches. “I’m actually not that surprised, I’ve never been that flexible,” says Brandon. “Something to work on though, for sure, so I’ll take it.”
Next up is a test of strength and endurance: situps and pushups. The Buff Dudes are familiar with these, having churned out their fair share of reps while partaking in military physical fitness test (PFT) challenges. They successfully both perform 28 uninterrupted pushups and 44 situps, the number required for that coveted 25 age range.
The fourth event is a test of functional strength: the no hand stand, which simply requires you to rise from a seated position without using your hands or knees; everybody passes this round with ease.
To challenge their coordination, the Dudes try to jump rope one-legged, with 50 consecutive jumps required on each leg for a perfect score. Both of them achieve their 100 reps, which is impressive considering Hudson, the self-described “bionic Buff Dude,” has recently recovered from a broken ankle.
Next, they take on the overhead squat for mobility, keeping arms locked overhead and torso upright while squatting until the upper legs are below parallel to the ground. Hudson achieves parallel form, while Brandon easily squats below parallel, taking the lead.
The seventh and penultimate test is long form cardio, taking the form of a 1-mile run. A time of 7:20 or below would be ideal, which Brandon smashes by finishing at 6:55, with Hudson close behind at 7:30. “That was tough,” says Hudson. “Those mile-long runs never get any easier.”
Finally, they close out the test with some short form cardio: the 40-yard dash, a staple of the NFL combine. To qualify as 25, a time of 4.5 seconds is needed. Hudson finishes in 5:12, while Brandon does slightly better with 4:96. Ultimately, they end up with respective fitness ages of 28 for Brandon and 32 for Hudson.
“We all have a little work to do, that’s what’s so great about this,” says Brandon. “It shows you what you’ve got to work on. It’s a journey.”
