The Afterparty is back for Season 2. Apple TV+’s genre-bending murder mystery show returns with new cast members and a new murder to solve. Tiffany Haddish returns as Detective Danner, but the show will feature (mostly) entirely new characters.
In Season 1, a high school reunion turned deadly and Aniq Adjaye (Sam Richardson), an escape room designer, was the prime suspect in the murder of actor Xavier (Dave Franco). Throughout the season, we saw the various events of the night recounted through each witness’ eyes, with every episode a different genre. There were musicals, psychological thrillers, teen dramas, animation, and more. And in the end, the real killer is revealed to be Yasper (Ben Schwartz), Xavier’s former bandmate and Aniq’s best friend.
Season 2 will return to Zoë (Zoe Chao), Aniq’s crush in Season 1. Aniq and Zoë attend her sister’s wedding, but after the ceremony, the groom is found dead. Detective Danner is back on the case, and as she interviews each guest, there’ll be a whole new slew of entertaining genres to spice up the ongoing whodunit. Season 2 is also a test of the show’s lifeline, which relies on its unique play on the murder mystery show not getting stale as the show is bumped up from eight episodes to ten. We’ll have to see if The Afterparty goes for a twist to shake things up, or sticks with its tried and true format.
